Five active stratovolcanoes in one weekend
A multi-day arc through the Cascade volcanic arc — the most active volcano chain in the contiguous US. Start near Mount Rainier (14,411ft, most prominent peak in the lower 48). South to Mount St. Helens, still growing a lava dome inside the 1980 crater. Continue to Mount Hood, visible from Portland on every clear day. Finish at Crater Lake, where 12,000-foot Mount Mazama collapsed 7,700 years ago in the largest known eruption of the Cascade Range. Density-altitude planning required at every leg.
