Miami down the island chain to Key West and the Dry Tortugas
The most beautiful infrastructure in America, seen the way it should be — from above. Begin over Miami at Kendall-Tamiami (KTMB) with Vizcaya on Biscayne Bay, then turn south down the chain. The Overseas Highway threads 113 miles and 42 bridges over water that shades turquoise to deep blue — Flagler's old railbed running beside the road that replaced it. Marathon (KMTH) puts you at the Seven Mile Bridge and Pigeon Key. Key West (KEYW) is the end of the road: Hemingway's house, Old Town, and the jumping-off point for the 70-mile open-water hop to Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas — the most remote unit in the National Park system.
