From Palmer's home field to the Republic P-47 factory
A three-stop run into the eastern aviation establishment. KLBE Latrobe is Arnold Palmer's home field, and the airport carries his name. KTEB Teterboro is the oldest operating airport in the New York metropolitan area, flying since 1919, with Anthony Fokker building airplanes there after the first war; today it is the busiest private-jet airport in the country, 143,097 business jet flights in 2024 alone. KFRG Republic on Long Island is where 9,087 P-47 Thunderbolts rolled out between 1941 and 1945; America built more P-47s than any other fighter it has ever made, and Farmingdale built well over half of them, then followed with the F-84, the F-105, and A-10 assemblies. The American Airpower Museum keeps a squadron of flying World War II aircraft in an original 1940 Republic hangar, taxiing to the same runways that dispatched Thunderbolts to war.
