The world's biggest aviation week to Milwaukee's flying art museum
For one week every late July, KOSH Wittman Regional hosts EAA AirVenture and its control tower becomes the busiest in the world; the 2026 edition drew a record 734,000 people and more than 10,000 aircraft to a town of 66,000, with Wittman logging about 101 takeoffs and landings for every hour the field was open. The FAA's pink-shirted controllers work the week, and airplanes land on painted colored dots, several sharing the same runway at once. South to KMKE Milwaukee Mitchell, twenty minutes from the Quadracci Pavilion of the Milwaukee Art Museum; Santiago Calatrava's first completed building in America, opened in 2001, carries the Burke Brise Soleil, a moveable sunshade with a 217-foot wingspan, comparable to a 747's, that unfurls each morning, flaps at noon, and folds at close, weather permitting.
