Major Gregory 'Pappy' Boyington grew up in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho — now the airport bears his name. He shot down 28 enemy aircraft in WWII, commanded the legendary Black Sheep Squadron, survived a POW camp, and received the Medal of Honor. The lake below his namesake airport is one of the most beautiful in the west.
