400,000 Wagons Carved in Stone

Oregon Trail ruts still visible from the air after 180 years

South of Casper, Wyoming, wagon wheels carved grooves 2-4 feet deep into sandstone — ruts from 400,000 emigrants heading west between 1841 and 1869. They're still visible from low altitude, dark parallel lines cutting across the sagebrush prairie. Land at Casper and breakfast at Eggington's.
