A warbird museum on Florida's Space Coast, founded in 1977 and built around aircraft that still fly. The 30,000-square-foot hangar at Space Coast Regional holds vintage military aircraft and an active restoration shop, plus a Memorabilia Hall of flight gear, uniforms, and weapons. What makes the location special is what's next door: this is Titusville, directly across the Indian River from Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral — you can stand at the warbird museum and look east at the launch pads where the Saturn Vs and shuttles left Earth. Two eras of American flight, a few miles apart.
Where America went to space. Launch Complex 39A sent every Apollo mission to the moon and now launches SpaceX Falcon 9 rockets regularly. The Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) is one of the largest buildings in the world — visible from 50+ miles. The Kennedy Space Center sits within a wildlife refuge, and the contrast between rocket launch pads and undeveloped wetlands is striking from above. Check NOTAMs carefully — the area has frequent TFRs during launches.
The Vehicle Assembly Building is one of the largest single-story buildings on Earth — built in 1966 to assemble the Saturn V moon rocket, later used for Space Shuttle stacking, now used for Artemis SLS. The KSC Visitor Complex includes the Space Shuttle Atlantis exhibit, a Saturn V suspended overhead, and bus tours that bring you within 1,000 feet of an active launch pad. The full Apollo Saturn V Center sits on the route. From KTIX or KMLB approach you can see the VAB and pads 39A/39B clearly.
A 175-foot red-brick lighthouse at the south end of the Daytona Beach peninsula — the tallest lighthouse in Florida and one of the tallest in the United States. Construction began in 1883 after a 1835 hurricane destroyed an earlier tower; the current lighthouse first lit on November 1, 1887. The original first-order Fresnel lens (now on display in the on-site museum) was one of the largest ever installed in a US lighthouse. The lighthouse marks Ponce de Leon Inlet, the only safe ocean passage between St. Augustine and Cape Canaveral. Just north begins Canaveral National Seashore — 24 miles of undeveloped Atlantic barrier-island coastline, one of the longest stretches of natural beach left on the entire East Coast, and the only place east of California where you can launch a rocket and see a sea turtle nest in the same day.
